Week 1: Reflection
Many different types of materials stood out to me this week. As I read through David A. Bednar’s message on Your Whole Souls as an Offering Unto Him, I began to have a change of heart in some aspects of my life, especially my career. He spoke on how, as we strive throughout our education and our lives, we must be willing to do all we can to achieve success the best way we can, and not going down the path of least resistance. I believe this means that we must not take the easy road.
Throughout my life, I have always chosen the easiest path. From the moment I graduated high school to the day I returned home from my mission, I have been worried/ afraid of failing, and the road ahead. Not only that, but I’ve just wanted to get done with college as quickly as I can, without any regard for the knowledge and experience I'm getting. I remember a few times in my life when my parents told me that if we always chose the easy road, then life would be harder, but if we chose the difficult path, then over time, life would get easier.
Another one is about the Startup of You. I learned quite a bit from this one. It talks about how we must be willing to make a plan if we hope to be able to overcome the challenges that may occur in the job or career we hope to accomplish. We must also be willing to adapt to those challenges and look for any type of knowledge that we find could help improve both ourselves and our jobs.
The last one is one I felt deeply connected to. President Gordon B. Hinckley gave a unique message about how we must trust in the Lord in faith, and to trust in Him and our ability to do well. We must not sell ourselves short and doubt ourselves otherwise; otherwise, we can’t be the best version of ourselves we need to be. I believe that if I do that, I will be blessed with the ability to overcome life's challenges and live the life that will help me draw closer to the Savior.
As I go through this semester, I look forward to learning a variety of things that will help me in my career. One of them is how to overcome challenges in both life and at work. This will help me to succeed in ways I’ve never thought of before.
